About Barbara Jordan Early College Prep

Barbara Jordan came from a humble beginning like so many of our scholars, but she had a dream to be great and she knew her education would be the key to her success. She advocated for justice for all despite their backgrounds and broke many barriers along the way. Our charge at Jordan is to instill that same drive in scholars to utilize their education to become the change they desire in the world. We do this by teaching the whole child, focusing both on academics as well as enrichment activities and social emotional learning. All of this built by the meaningful relationships formed and strengthened, daily.

Overview

The mission of Barbara Jordan Elementary is to educate every child, every day as we close the achievement gap. Barbara Jordan Elementary helps students achieve their full potential with a rich educational experience inspired by the leadership qualities of its namesake. The school is named after Barbara Jordan, the first woman elected to the US Congress from Texas. Each year in February, the school community along with the LBJ School of Public Affairs, the Barbara Jordan Foundation, and the University of Texas at Austin holds a program to commemorate the many accomplishments and achievements of Barbara Jordan. Barbara Jordan Elementary is part of the LBJ Early College High School family of schools, which offers students the opportunity to earn college credit and graduate with an associate degree.
